I really thought I was a bit of whiz kid where computers were concerned sure had I not spent days trying to fix my old keyboard once upon a time many years ago only to find that no software update in the world would fix the fact that liquid had seeped into the keyboard in the first place. No I did not learn my lesson however looking back I did learn quite a lot about how to restart my computer in safe mode.
Today a different scenario completely kept me busy not only did I manage to lock myself out of my email , the one I have been using for probably the last 10 years but I could not get in touch with any live help in order to help me. The reason for my email lock out was the phone number I had used for security details I no longer used, I could remember the number but the drop down menu insisted I accept a text on a non-existent phone and this is where the lack of a human being is utterly frustrating. For the life of me I don’t understand why anyone would send an email that cannot be replied to but saying that it must come in very handy for businesses dealing with disgruntled customers. I don’t like automated emails.
I did not learn my lesson from all those years ago trying to fix the keyboard with software when the actual hardware was damaged. No today I spent ages sending emails to addresses that clearly stated they were no reply addresses; no patience exercised on my part and something my day completely lacked today.
Work began and hours were spent navigating around publisher writing an advertisement for a colleague only to become utterly frustrated when every time I tried to send it in an email attachment it converted to a word document and it really was a great piece of work.
It was a great day though because it has enlightened me to spend tomorrow outdoors.
I have now decided to take it easy with computer programs or apps as we now call them and perhaps go over my ECDL notes again and maybe invest in a more up to date version of that very book which explains all one needs to know in order to merge documents and create power points etc.
MY children always thought it was hilarious when I mentioned the very popular (ECDL); the European computer driving licence that I managed to study for while some of them were still at school . I do remember being very proud of that certificate and amazed at all the work a computer could do. That was over a decade ago so although today I did think of abandoning all things technical from my life and going back to the use of a fountain pen and nice paper I have since come to the conclusion that all I need is a little patience and some help from my supercomputer whizz kid son. I would like to delete the apps I don’t need and gain some knowledge of the ones I do need. I do find it fascinating when I apply myself to learning about all these wonderful apps and finding out what magic they can perform. I am still going to treat myself to a fountain pen though and keep a dictionary nearby because lately I have found that by using a keyboard that corrects spelling errors does have some drawbacks. When I did eventually get back into my email I confess I copied and pasted a few important email addresses and will keep a hard copy just in case.
